Default 14 SGS or 14 UGC???

The more I poke around on here and look at all of your bikes, the more I can't wait til winter sets in. Here are my options and if you can think of anything better, please chime in.

First off, the normal day to day will be just cruising around (solo) with the occasional trip (2-up) a few times a year. In the end I want the bike to be completely blacked out (no flak please, just my preference).

Would it be more prudent to purchase a SGS and add the detachable king tour pak or purchase a UGC and make the tour pak detachable.

Basically, is it cheaper to turn a SGS into a UGC or vice versa?

I know that on the UGC, I would have to buy black saddle bag latches and anything else that is chrome standard on the UGC which are normally black on the SGS. The UGC comes with psgr floor boards though.

Lots of things to look at. What are your thoughts and opinions. I like the looks of the SGS but want the functionality of the UGC for trips.

Better to turn the EGC into a SGS.

I second that, because the paint job and style will match.

I'm doing it the other way around. Because the SGS has gps and better stereo, performance coil shocks, nicer rims, and some other things I'm sure I'm missing.

But that was my preference. Can't go wrong either way. Basically look at what you would have to change or add to each bike. Then factor it out.

After really looking at it, I think it would be more beneficial to start with an SGS. I will be changing alot of chrome to black. It will be in street glide form most of the time anyways. Most of the stuff that I would have to add to the SGS would still have to be changed on the classic from chrome to black. Not a big fan of the front fender badging nor trim pieces onthe classic. The biggest purchase will be the king tour pak and the price difference between the bikes is greater than the cost of a king tour pak.

Does that make sense?

the cost is around $1200 to add the color matched detachable tour Pak(I just ordered the complete set up). To make the UG Pak detachable and I'm guessing here $300 in hardware. I'm like you I spend most of my time local with maybe 2 trips a year so I want the cleaner look of the SGS plus all the bells & whistles the 6.5 head unit screen the clean front fender with the 19inch wheel.

Yup I found the king tour-pac through Kutter Harley online for 809 black with the silver pinstripe. Then you need a lock kit, backrest, and detach rack. That's another 433 through kutter. The prices are good. It saved me 20% on parts.

Btw if you want passenger floorboards. This is what I did. I bought highway peg brackets then I moved the pass pegs up to become highway pegs. Then bought floorboards. It saved me from buying an extra set of pegs then deciding later on floorboards.

I have turned 2 ultra classics into street glide styles. This time went the other way. Hated the double pin stripes (still hate the ones on the SGS, but oh well). Didn't like the chrome on the fenders, hated the big pancake lights. Ended up changing the rear fender etc, etc, etc. Even bought a chopped tourpak because I didn't like the big tour pak with wrap around backrest(wife has her own bike). Never used the CB or communication system, changed out the tank console. Changed the mirrors. Powder coated rear crash bars.

Should have just bought a street glide back in '09. Figured I was "saving lots of money with all the extras on the ultra"

My advice....know what look you really want to start with. Taking off the tourpak on an Ultra, does not make it a street glide. There are fenders, lights, WHEELS, SEAT, suspension, mirrors, and probably more that I forgot.

Just my opinion, but what do I know. No offense to any Ultra guys out there!

You'd have to buy a '13 if you want a Classic. The Ultra and Limited are the only options in '14.

Yep I ordered everything from Kutter also 20% and free shipping you can't beat that anywhere and I only ride solo so I pulled the passenger pegs also and made them highway pegs
