Default Progressive 412s

I've done lots of searching here, Google and on other sites about which Progressive 412s to order and still haven't been able to come up with a clear answer. Heavy duty or standard springs and 12.5" or 12". I'm 220lbs and ride solo 95% the time. I'm leaning toward standard springs and 12.5" for the extra 1/2" of travel and don't think it should change the look of the bike if anything at all. If I do throw a passenger on for a joy ride I can crank them down all the way and the extra 1/2" of travel will also help. Am I thinking wrong? I'm placing an order tomorrow one way or the other so I've got to figure it out. I think I'm going to call Progressive in the morning to get there input.

Get the 12.5 412's. Get the standard duty. Click them up to the second setting. They will work perfect for you, and as long as the passenger isn't TOO heavy, you should be fine. If you want to set them once and never touch them again, even with a passenger, set them on setting 3 (middle setting). Not quite as smooth, but still way better than the stock shocks, and a passenger can hop on any time without bottoming out issues. Frankly, 13's would be the best bet, second setting and your done (forever), but you only wanted the 12.5 shocks.

I have an 06 EG so I bought the 13"ers. I'm about 210# and also solo most of the time and have the standard springs and they work well. Way better than the stock air shocks on the 06.

Just ordered the 12.5" standard springs from Eastern Performance. They have a 10% off that ends today so the price was very attractive. I'll have to wait until Spring to install them because the bike is put up for the winter.

I'm looking at the 412's right now thanks for the post and let us know what you find out from progressive if you talk to them. My thoughts are 12.5's standard springs for my 2013 Ultra. I weigh about 220lbs solo most of the time.

I'm 210 and my passenger is 140. Went with the 12 inch heavy duty. I love them but I do wish I would have stuck with the 13 inch.

I talked to Progressive and the tech said definitely the standard springs. He said the HD would be too stiff when I ride solo and when I put a passenger on I could crank the standards down and be fine, unless it's a 300lb bearded lady but that would be a whole other problem.

Per Progressive Suspension web site regarding standard vs heavy duty rated springs: "Heavy Duty Applications are recommended for bikes that are operated at or near the manufacturer’s maximum load rating over 50% of the time."

I would sure like to hear how those work out for you as I have been considering getting the same thing for my 2010 Ultra. I ride solo 100 percent of the time and have removed my tour pack. I'm 5'7 and used lowering blocks for several years. When I purchased new strut covers I removed the lowering blocks because the change of angle caused one shock to rub. I thought the 12 1/2 412's might be a good compromise. I have been holding off replacing the stock shocks hoping I could buy a better shock but the 412's really fit my budget the best.
