I want to put my Roady on my Ultra and us the cigarette lighter outlet for the power source. However, I understand this is not a good idea. Should I use the power source under the faring and install a outlet, or will using the cigarette lighter out let really damage my Roady or bike.
I installed a 12 volt acc. plug using the acc. switch wiring under the seat. Now I can use the Acc switch on the dash to turn it on or off. This is the first I have heard anything about the Cig lighter outlet being a problem.
I've used the cigarette lighter socket as a power source for my Roady and have never had a problem....well over two years now. I like this power source because it allows me to go from car to bike almost instantly. No worries.
Cig lighter shouldn't be a problem although it's fused pretty heavily - does the Roady have an in-line fuse? Anyway, there's absolutely no problem using the cig lighter as a power source.
You can use the cigarette lighter plug with no problems. That's how the Roady was designed to be hooked up. Be careful that the end of the plug does not hit the tank in tight turns.
I just did a hookup on the wife's new Street Glide, and used a cigarette lighter plug that I installed under the fairing. There are two free wires on the wire bundle to the headlight that will work. I think one is white and orange and the other is black. At any rate, they are the same color as the wires to the cigarette lighter.
