Does anyone know the difference between 211 and 258 cams?

Besides the more lift, duration and overlap of 258?

SE-211 CAM KIT
This camshaft works great with 103" and larger engines
with free-flowing intake and exhaust. This bolt-in
camshaft works well with stock heads and high-
compression pistons. It increases midrange torque and
top-end power.

SE-258 CAM KIT*
This higher power version of the SE-257 cam has been
designed for high-compression big bore or larger
cylinders and piston when used in conjunction with
performance heads and open intake and exhaust. The
later intake closing sacrifices some low-end torque to
gain top-end power. The cam works great in cruiser
bikes and provides an extra kick above 3000 RPM so
hold on tight.

*NOTICE:
Requires use of Screamin’ Eagle Valve Spring
Kit and appropriate Screamin Eagle Pushrods for instal-
lation and to ensure proper clearance. Failure to comply
may result in engine damage.

I know it's your first post but you will get way much more help if you tell us what year and what bike you intend on putting them in.

Welcome to the forum.

the 211 has 248 intake and 256 exhaust duration and .508 lift and 40 degrees overlap. It will work in pretty much any of the engines. Works better with more compression and larger engines. Bud has one in a 05 Dyna carbed and it works pretty good. There are better choices.

The 258 has 258 intake and 268 exhaust duration and .569 lift and 49 degrees overlap. On a stock engine it wouldn't be a good choice. Would require atleast 10.5 compression and good exhaust system to make it work anywhere close to right. The lift isn't that much an issue with late model Beehive springs. It would do much better with upgraded springs. Would lope a lot and be very soft below 3000 rpms without mods. Still lope, but have some low response.

Thank you all for the replies. As you can tell, this was my first post. I have 06 ultra with an 88 and 211 cams, SE mapped. I was looking at a new 2014 ultra and the sales said that the dealership put 258 cams into the 103. So, I was just wondering if the 258 where for 103's only if they gave the same performance that I get with my 211's.

I doubt they put 258 cams in a stock 103. The SE catalog says they require compression and head work and provide extra above 3000 rpms. Also for larger engines with larger intakes and exhaust.

[QUOTE=shellback85;12110935] I was looking at a new 2014 ultra and the sales said that the dealership put 258 cams into the 103.

Rule #1, never believe a "Salesman". Last week they may have been selling Vacuum Cleaners.
