Default Head pipe question

Is it possible that I can just weld a block off plate over the port coming off the head pipe for the left side muffler so I can run a 2 into 1 setup ? Bike is a 13 FLTRX. Thanks

Sure can. I've seen it done.

If I was gonna go to the trouble of doing that I'd cut out the CAT too while I had it off.

Sure you can, but why? A real 2:1 uses a larger collector and outlet than the stock pipe.

On a budget and saw an opportunity to save a few bucks, gonna remove the cat anyway so I figured while it's off why not, I like the looks of the single muffler setups better. On another not while I was just searching I saw that 2010's came with a 2 into 1 head pipe, could I use one of those and would it be any better than what I'm thinking of doing ?

If you have the time and tools why not.I have an extra stock header that I'm thinking of doing the same thing with.I think the smaller outlet pipe than a two into one could be rectified by running a gutted stock can then the outlet would act like the baffle providing necessary back pressure.I may be totallly wrong but in the end what would you be out? you'd end up buying a two into one anyway.

Hmmmm I happen to have a stock 2-1 headpipe off my 2010 FLHX. Still has the cat in it but that can be remedied

In theory it will work and I'm sure it will. Will it perform as good as a D&D or Pro Pipe, NO. Exhaust companies spend big money engineering systems for our bikes to produce great HP/TQ and a sweet sound. I would wait and save until you can get a proven performer.

Just for chitz n giggles what size is the collector on it? I may be wrong but I bet it'll accept a standard 1 3/4" slip-on.

I saw one of these like the OP is talking about on a RG and if running it this way hindered performance or sound quality I couldn't tell it.

I haven't seen a side by side comparison but from the pics I have seen online the 2010 2into 1 head pipe does appear to have a larger collector. I'll prob just go that route I have seen a couple used ones fairly cheap. Anyone know if my heat shields will work with them ?
