Default OEM Black and Chrome Locks

Like you I thought it was a 2 piece fit and bought the chrome version to replace the OEM Black. Of course only one actually fits ....so now I have one black and one chrome detachable mount.
Seems like theft to me that you have to buy 4 chrome mounts just to use one lockable one. This does not endear the MoCo to HD riders.

It is (After further review - reading instructions - they list it does not install on right side. Left side only for backrest)

Flip it around, you have it backwards.
I have this same lock on my detachable tour pack, on the right side.
It should fit on there exactly like the old one you took off.

Because most have more than one detachable device.
Backrest, luggage rack, tour pack.
You buy one "kit" and can put one lock on two different detachable devices.

It is not the HD"s fault you decided to change the finish of your locks.
They make both chrome and black so you can "match" what version you have.
You can buy a non locking chrome version, so it will match your new locking one.

They come in packs of two, so you can install them on two different items.

Ok

As long as it is installed exactly like the one that came off.
In your pictures, you have the thumb tab facing forward on the right, and toward the rear on the left.
Or am I just looking at the pictures wrong?
They should both be facing the same way.

I have mine installed on a Tour Pack, and I do remember reading where different detachable devices have the locks installed different.
Inside vs. outside.
I think this might be one of those (backrest vs. tour pack) cases.

The locks are exactly the same, Most likely they are lefts. The directions do say only use 1 per device, but my stock ones are black. Always something. The stock black ones are a right and left.

Ok, just got the instruction sheet out.

Tour Pack uses Outer Right Installation. That is why I "assumed" yours was installed backwards.

For a detachable backrest - See figure 6, Inner Left Installation

Default 4 chrome detachables

Hi RollaMo...I take your point..its just that I bought the chrome units off the website and there was no mention on the site that only one part fits....as otherwise.... I would have stayed with the black.
Should maybe have chatted to some buddies about it first ..still you live and learn....happy n safe riding guys
