Have a service manual handy. I always replace the seals at the top also under the big cap plug, and the socket head screws with new washers at the bottom of the fork. The oil you will get all kinds of answers. I use a 50/50 mix of SE and the regular E type. I use a seal driver I got of eBay and made the tool that holds the fork in the vice. Good luck

If you've got over 10,000 miles, get the fork rebuild kit from the dealer and replace all the bushings. I'd also suggest adding either Ricor Intiminators or Progressive Monotubes while you've got the thing apart.

+1 on the Progressive Monotubes, lowered my front end 1" and handles better.

The bolts holding the sliders on are metric and very tight. I use an impact wrench per a suggestion from the local wrench, but only if I can't make it happen by hand. Installation of the seals is the other PITA, you definitely need to buy or build a tool. I use a homemade tool with pvc pipe halves and hose clamps. Not the best but works. The one on sale is way better and probably worth the $$$$$.

And take the reflectors OFF, it's not a Schwinn, my 2 cents.

figured I would save the montubes till I get my 21'' wheel set. I will need the 1'' lowering kit then but cant swing the wheels now so looks like I will have it apart more than once before its all said and done. Any more opinions on fluids?

Needing alittle knowledge on fluid suggestion. The screaming eagle fluid is labeled as a heavy fluid, is this going to help with the front end dipping under breaking? How does it affect the ride?
