If it is on the inside I wouldn't mess with it. Chrome is thin and if ya get too "aggressive" with it = rust. It is hard and ya may try a razor blade "carefully!". Lots of cleaners I'd try before steelwool or even chrome polish.

I've had great results with Flitz metal polish over the past 20 years, for Chrome and Aluminum, it's a blessing to work with compared to rubbing your fingers to the nub with neverdull.

If it can't be seen when mounted, then leave it.
Who cares about a blemish that can't be seen?

Blue Magic. It works amazing. I got my bike from an old guy that stopped cleaning the bike years before I bought it.....5hrs with a bottle of blue magic and its new again! Leaves a protective coating too!

I also used it on an old Howitzser shell casing that was all burnt up! After a little wet sanding and polish its a perfect mirror finish of brass now.....beautiful!
