I would be the first one to agree to not compromise reliability. But, if you think the HD 103 motor only puts out 70 HP because it makes it more reliable, you couldn't be more wrong. It is a compromise for many reasons. One being they can immediately sell you stage 1. Instant revenue. And that's just the beginning of the upgrade revenue stream that they only need a tiny piece of to bank a large amount of cash. The other reason is they need to meet epa requirements which is easier to accomplish with the baseline components and crappy tune. I just don't believe my 107 is not going to be reliable. In fact I'm using aftermarket components of a higher quality than HD. In the end I believe it will be more reliable than they day I drove it home. JMO.

Shoooot, I didn't put cams in until there was 81,000 on the clock ( but I do have the "good" crank too.)

Well said, bottom line you can do whatever you want with your scoot, but if your just trying to keep up with the JONES your never find time to just Ride.

I'm thinking, at 100k I'll set down with the indy I use and we'll
talk about what I think I may want to have done to my engine.
Would really like the FM 107.....I still have a couple years to think about it.

(I'd really like to schedule a leisurely 2 week vacation
and ride to FM for the install)

That was my plan but I traded in my 09 with 62k miles, if I kept it I would have done some type of motor work not because it was needed but because I wanted too.

Not surprising a dealer would tell you your bike is half worn out at 41K, they want to sell you a new one.

When the twin cam was designed it was supposed to be a 100,000 mile engine. I have not seen anything since then to make me think it would go fewer miles, with the exception of the chain tensioners on '06 and earlier.

Does no one bore cylinders anymore? Or replace valve guides and grind the valves? I would assume all that is possible on the twin cam and along with the requisite parts it can be made new again pretty easily and cheaply.

Go fast, reliable, inexpensive. Pick any two, can't have all 3.
