Default Rear rotor removal

I need to remove my rear rotor on my 2010 Ultra. I could use some advice on what bit to use and whats a good way to break the bolts loose. I'd hate to mess up the heads!

I would use a hand impact tool to bust them loose. Sears or Napa has them for pretty cheap.

Because they are in so tight (with thread locker,) I've always removed the wheel and laid it flat on a carpet on the floor first, then used an impact gun with a little body weight to discourage the bit from jumping out. If it still fights you, a little heat to loosen the thread locker might be necessary.

Use heat. A torch and just heat the head a bit. There is lock tight red on those bolts. They are a son a bitch. Mine are T-40.
Use a quality bit and socket. A cheap one is going to snap.

Prior to 09 the rotor bolts were a 40 Torx. Use a good breaker bar and keep as level as possible to break them loose. Use a small amount of heat from a hair dryer if necessary but most importantly make sure the Torx bit fits very snuggly. Good luck and replace with new bolts.

Thanks for the advise. Mine are bigger than a 40 Torx but not by much. 40 is the biggest I have, maybe sears will have a bigger set that I can get.

X2 on the heat. Melts the red loctite like butter and they spin right off.

i bought them separately from lowes. i believe its a t45 now. i bought 3 of them, broke 1, and because it's a kobalt, lifetime warranty. took it back later and got a new one. i used a heavy duty soldering iron on the head of the bolt to heat up the loctite. if you don't use heat, i guarantee, you will snap the torx bit.

Think everyone pretty much covered it for you.

Just as a reminder, service manual says to not reuse those bolts.

What would be the reason why you can not reuse the bolts?
