Just installed rinehart 4 inch slip ons. Just curious how many people actually use a bead of silicon between the pipe and the head pipe as the instructions "reccomend"? I have put slip ons on a number of bikes and never did this. I didnt have any so I put them on anyway, i can feel no leaks so I hope im good.
I didnt because I have to pull the Rineharts to pull the rear wheel and didn't want the fight to be worse than it already is. Mine didn't need it. They are tight.
If the pipes are "true" (not bent or damaged), and you have a good clamp, there is no need for the silicon.
I didn't use any on mine, and there are no issues or leaks.
Pipes should be true the bike is still practically new and of course the slip ons are new. Just running it in the garage i have no leaks but unfortunately I cant test ride it until the weather clears up
Yea, I've put the high temp RTV in there in the past but no longer do it. It makes it a pain to deal with if you remove the mufflers for general maintenance. Good clean pipe and muffler, good clamp and 40 ft lbs of torque. Some guys have problems because the way overtorque those bolts.

I went 50 ft lbs cause thats right in the middle of the specs so I should be fine. Only one way to find out............
I put the high temp silicone on when I installed mine. However, I will probably regret it when I want to take them off to install new head pipes. Heard using that silicone is a real chore when trying to get them off.
I didn't and have 1000 miles on them. They are fine. I had to take them off when I put a header and holy swear words Bat Man. They we hard enough to get off.

I didn't mostly because I didn't have any and really wanted to put them on that day. No issues here.
