Don't expect a great improvement with just speakers. Replaced my stock 2009 SG speakers with Hawgwired 2ohm speakers. Sound great with the bike on the understand and up to 45mph. Above 45 not better than stock. Recommend you go with speakers and amp. Installed the Boom amp and front speakers on my bike, good improvement. Not much good at 70 mph and above, too much wind noise.
Thanks for all of the information, it's all something to think about. My system is 05 stock, so I'm pretty certain it will be the 8 ohm unit and will have to be set up accordingly at this time. Right now I wouldn't mind a stock set just to have tunes. I'll check over at the audio forum as suggested as well.
Thanks,
Smitty
For the cost, Hogtunes is a decent upgrade. You can go with just speakers or get the kit with amp and all. Best part is that it's plug & play, and specifically built for Harleys. Got the Big Ultra system on mine, does the trick for me. My 2 cents.
No they won't. They'll play louder and cleaner and won't damage the internal amp. I ran them that way for years on my '03.
I'm just giving advice. You can do whatever you want. I would start saving money up for a new head unit if you go lower in resistance though. It's only a matter of time, especially if you play at high volume.
Sounds like the Op blew his speakers and just wants some cheap speakers to throw in so he can have tunes again. Not everyone that asks about speaker is ready to invest big money on amps and speakers, the booms work great on a non amp'ed bike and are cheap and direct replacement install. As mentioned you could go to a store like walmart and get a cheap set but they might not be water proof. Also eBay might have some real cheap stock take offs for that year?
