Once you're comfortable handling a touring bike, nothing else will do!

I too had a Sporty before I got a Road King, took me about 25 miles to know I had made the right choice. Kept the Sporty thinking I'd jump on it for short rides, put about 200 miles on it in 2 years & sold it. Went from a RK to a SG & now have a RG, IMO the best touring bike Harley makes if you really like pouring on the miles, that said the RK is the most versital with the removable ws. They all have the same frame per year of bike, the 09-up frame is a big improvement & ABS is great also, but not must haves if your budget won't permit. Try to find the Harley demo trailer at a dealer demo day near you when it warms up & you can ride them all if you get there early. If you're a big guy I'm betting you'll never look back, I haven't.

My first bike was a road king, loved it, My only warring with a bike this big, is slow speed or parking lot manunvers ,don't use the front brake, as if you have it turned a little and apply the front brake it's going to want to go over, the rear brake is what you want to use under 5 mph. Enjoy you new scoot!

I got a roadking ('94) mostly for the wife's comfort thinking I'd ride my sporty solo. Found I seldom rode the sporty and it got sold for a Ninja. Rode that about half the time. I now have a supermoto that while maybe the most fun bike I've ever owned, almost never gets ridden? EG gets most all my miles these days?? So no, if my old sick body is fine herding an tourer around ya ought to be able to handle it.

Thanks for all the advice. I recently got the ride like a pro and on e it's warmer I plan on practicing alot. I am a big guy. I'm 6'4 and 300 lbs. I can't wait to test ride a road king. I am trying to save up for an 09 or newer. I am gonna list my bike for sale once it's warmer and I got 8 grand saved to add. I figure by next Xmas I should be in the 15 thousand range. Hopefully a little more but only time will tell. I like doing my research early. Lol. Ryan

It's only a chore when I've got to back one up....otherwise it's quite nimble.

I'm barely 5'8" and have a Ultra and a Sportster. I find myself riding the big bike 90% of the time, no matter how short the ride.

I think you'll discover that the same riding qualities that make a Road King great for longer rides, make it great for shorter ones, as well...
