Default Security or no security

In the next few weeks, I will be ordering a 2014 ultra classic (dry head). I am going to order it with the optional 6.5" radio. My question is, should I spend the extra $400 on the factory security? I've had security on previous Harley's and didn't use it. Also, my insurance company doesn't give a discount for securi systems on motorcycles. Any input would be appreciated.

How is it that you "didn't use it"? It's a passive system.

I have a friend that works at the plant. He recommended me not get it when I bought my new ride. For one he said it shortens the life of the battery.
For me.... My security is my insurance policy

How do you know you didn't use it, you still have your bike?

I guess it's a matter of choice , I received my 2014 ultra (dry head) in October ,with no security.and the 6.5 screen .Never had security on any bikes , but I know there are problems with the systems .You will enjoy your new ride , guaranteed .Tony

Here in the UK we get factory-fitted Harley security as part of the original purchase, but then we seem to be more receptive to the notion of keeping ownership of the darned things! As for battery life, a bike left standing for an extended period may suffer, but that is what tenders are for.

I just like the little chirping noise as I walk away from my sled makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside

If you don't feel it's necessary...save the bucks. If a thief wants your scoot bad enough, no security will stop them. That's why we have insurance coverage.
