I wash it with water and zymol car wash soap. Have only been to the coast on it twice and live in land. But chemical exposure is something I haven't considered. If it's not raining or below 40F I ride it. It does see the sun in the parking lot at work, so a cover is probably good advice and also a possible culprit.
My 09 Ultra's inner fairing turned white in a couple of spots about a year after I bought it. Dealer replaced it under warranty and no problem since. A few years later, the comm plugs-rider and passenger had faded and were getting light colored and the black plastic on the console wasn't looking real good anymore.
I read a post here on the forum I guess a couple of years ago that suggested using black "Kiwi" leather dye to apply to the faded parts. I tried this and it worked great. Only thing is, it's not permanent but it does last a long time (can't say how long since I don't pay attention very well). It worked on the mid frame deflectors as well.
Now that you've mentioned it, I need to touch mine up again.
I'd probably see what the cost is to repair the seat and compare that against a take off seat and go from there. I'm sure MCC would do you a fine job or you could probably get it recovered locally.
Not sure if will work on yours or not but Mothers Back to Black works really good on all exterior plastic items. Don't know how bad yours is but it really does work pretty good.
Do you have a pool? A friend of mine stored Chlorine for the pool in a shop with his nice 64 Mustang. Caused a lot of the same problems you are having.
Going to go try some Doc's leather polish and Mother's back to black. Have a couple days going to try and address a few of these issues. I do have a pool but the chemicals are kept out of the garage. I may even get some roll on rhino lining material and a small paint brush and paint over the whitening connectors if the Doc's or Mother's don't work. It must be something I or the previous owner has done since almost no one else is having the problems I am seeing
