There is no reason to raise a bike off the tires. If it does create a slight flat spot (which I have never noticed) it would be gone within the first mile or two of riding.

Sorry to hear about your mess.

I do believe you will be having the tank stripped and repainted. It's possible to work just that area and reprime, just rely on what your painter says. The reason that I'd probably go with stripping the whole thing is to avoid having too much build on the paint, assuming that it's been maybe painted and repainted previously. Either way, just find a painter you're comfy with, and don't worry about it.

Doesn't make any difference what lift you use if you don't take the bike up high enough to put the lock in place they can all leak down no matter if it's a $10.00 dollar or a $1,000.00 lift. I knew when I first started reading this thread it was going to turn into a lift thing instead of what the op was asking. I have been using a HF lift for years without any trouble and i'll bet if you look into your fancy lifts they or their components weren't built in the US either.

I would check with your insurance to see what is covered. As far as the pant, they should be blue to repaint just the blue and reclear the entire tank.

It's for the stability without using tie downs, and the safety of locking mechanisms. If the jack bottle fails, the safety catches do their job.

As for the paint, I'd say that it doesn't look like enough area to blend it in. Maybe they can tape it off and just re shoot the blue?

I have the J&S lift and always use the lock mechanism when it's in use sorry to hear of your mishap that would make me sick if that happened to me. I wish you luck with your repairs.

For what it will cost to repaint the tank, yo can get one painted from Harley...call your home owners insurance as well as the bike and file a claim.

Man, not to walk ankle deep in your misery, but I've been storing my bikes like that for years on my craftsman lift....... I've just been convinced not to do that any longer, I think I'll just roll it around every week or so to lessen flat spots on the tires during the winter months from now on

That sux, sorry to hear that happen. Me and my buddy bought the cheap costco jacks over ten years ago and we changed all the bolts to grade 8 with no issues. Just wondering if one of the bolts failed?

Your cheapest route would be to repaint just that side of the tank, and no you can't do just the blue. It's just a matter of time before the silver will start bubbling up as well. The issue with going this route is getting both sides of the tank to match. If you know if a competent painter in your area I'd have the whole tank stripped and reprinted. Matching colors is not that hard with the technology used today. But with that said, if you were to only paint one side and the color is just a smigin off you'll notice it every time you look at it.
