well to start off I'm new to flh word and am now an 01 road king classic efi owner who has a couple questions.
I got the bike in a trade and it was in parts when i got it. motor in frame, wiring harness and all in a box, and just about every other part in crates.
well to get to the point here, the shocks for the bike got turned upside down in the crate and they leaked oil. needless to say they need an oil change now. also i have the front end pulled apart. with everything sitting the way it is, I've been debating the progressive mono-tube suspension upgrade up front and the progressive gas charged shocks in the rear.
by doing this id be replacing the stock air ride set up. with gas charged shocks and fork set ups.
what does everyone think on this subject? has anyone completely gotten ride of the harley air ride on their bikes, or what? lets hear some feed back.
My '00 RG went passed 100,000 a couple of years back and I "upgraded" to the new 2009 and later stock shocks for $60 off of EBay. I'm not a road racer and these newer shocks are just fine for my needs.
Your front adjustable air ride is one of the nicest features on that era touring bike. I left my just as is.

so pretty much i should just rebuild my stock set up? they're not much a difference in the rear shocks between those years. if you oil change the shocks with a nice 10 weight oil the ride is that much better.

No the valving is different. The older units maxed out at 25 lbs, the newer '09 are good for 50 lbs. A nicer ride IMO. EBay always has them because so many guys are going with the lower Streetglide shocks for their Road Kings and Ultras.
Air shocks need to go. there are much better rides available for not a lot of $$$$.
Harley's own CVO are a huge upgrade ride quality wise at under $500. Unless they took a hike like everything else in my 13 catalog.

so if i went with the progressive 944 shocks in the rear and the mono tubes up front id be better off with a better ride?
