I have to second the PIAA Xtreme White bulb. I replaced the OEM bulb and the "brightest bulb" from HD...whatever that was with the Xtreme white and it mad a big difference to me. My wife has a heritage and I did a side by side comparison (attached). In the picture, my yellow non-fluted passing lamps are on and her passing lamps and head lamp are stock. If you see a yellow hue around the brighter light, that is why. Also...the picture was taken with my phone, which doesn't capture the best of sounds for videos for pipes. PIAA also makes a bulb that has a purpleish tone to it that is supposedly brighter on the K scale, but the Xtreme white was the brightest "white" light that I could find without overloading the wiring. I got mine through Amazon for about $50.00. If you don't end up liking it, at least you can use it for a spare.
HID is no comparison to any halogen bulb. You can get a 35/55 high low beam set up for about $35 online, I think I paid 60ish for 2 for my roadglide, but you dont need a high beam low is plenty. It runs way cooler than halogen and draws a lot less load too.
Consider 4300K-5000k if you want the best distance natural light, I wouldnt go past 6000k which has just a hint of blue, anything between 6-12k you will loose a lot of seeing distance
Many thanks to everyone for your replies.
Looked at the comments and links and decided on the PIAA Bulb (anti-vibration Bulb) Extreme White Plus H4. It is $40 on Amazon. I think the touch of blue light is good.
I fitted Halogen Xenon 90/100w bulbs (2) total cost approx $15. So even if it does blow I have a spare.
Then have twice the output of standard H4 bulbs, well worth a try until you are ready to upgrade to a LED
The BAL's are super easy to install...just DO NOT use loctite on the screws or you will be sending it in for a new housing like I am...lol...I was told by BAL tech support that the loctite reacts with the material the light is made out of and causes it to break down. I should have taken a picture before I sent it off, it was almost ready to fall right off the bike.
Cheers,

I have put a higher watt bulb into my passing lamps. Really shines. I think I went from 25 w stock to 35.5 w. I heard it would not overload wiring system.
Just purchased bulbs at Autozone and installed myself.
Now this leaves my stock headlamp. It looks so dim when compAred to my passing lamps which I have on all daytime. I really can't afford the LED headlamp.
Can I get a recommendation for just a brighter bulb that I can easily install myself?
Also, I'm thinking of a modulating bulb or special wiring thing to make it modulate. Are they legal?
