i don't understand why harley ever changed the design of the compensator , the old design was much quieter and smoother and could handle alot of horse power. you don't have that sloppy feel either.

i must say with my newly installed baker manual primary chain adjuster it seems to have reduced this sloppy feeling alittle with less noise and a smoother feeling to it. seems to be a real improvement.

My compensator just spins. It never "travels." Are you sure you aren't talking about something else like clutch adjustment or friction zone?

Default 2014 difference

The main difference between the 2014 and previous models (11-13) is the hydraulic clutch. It is rather grabby

The SE compensator is different than the pre-11 models compensator, but when I went to the SE on my 08 it was an improvement over the stock comp.

Can you really feel a change of less than 1/3 of a rotation with your engine rotating thousands of revolutions every minute? At low power just how far do you think the comp is rotating? I don't know but I would think it's moving around +/- 30 degrees or less at low power and less than 120 degrees at max load.

big, big ,big differance between compensators in late model bikes compared to the earlier ones. that's one of the first things i noticed was the comps. on the newer bikes.

I feel the difference between my 05 and 14 but thought it was just the hydraulic clutch
I have to give more throttle in slow turns to stop the jumping. Not had enough time on it yet to really say. Gonna be longer now with the snow.

Yes I do feel the change, that's why I asked about other rider's opinions. And the problem isn't at high rpms as you say, it's at low rpms. Hardheaded understands what I'm saying. Apacheboy does too. It is way different and I was wondering if it was my bike or if it was all 2014's. For others who seem to think the word travel means sideways, it doesn't. It means too much movement from what is should be to what it is. At least a 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn. Happens in all gears and rpm around 1,000-1200

Default compensator

If you are lugging the engine on the 2007 and later with the SE and newest version comp they can hit full rotation and spring back past center and be thrown back forward by crank to again hit full load over and over until the cycle is broken buy letting off the throttle some or accelerating more. I call it comp hammering. These engines do not like to be lugged like the per 2007's. Even the older Twin cams don't lug nearly as good as the EVO's. May not be what you are describing but it really feels crappy when it happens but there is an associate crappy noise that comes with it. So I keep my Revs up to avoid it. Hope that helps
