OK i want to get some heated gear so I dont have to wear so many layers to stay warm. I've been looking for a while now and just can't decide between liners and heated outer wear. Mainly the pants because the liners look to bulky to fit under jeans comfortably. The heated outer wear pants from Gerbing are $400 for the new style that will be out this month so thats more than twice the cost of the First Gear pants liners. For those that wear the pants liners do you feel they fit well under a normal pair of jeans? I can get the First Gear jacket liner, pants liner, socks, and glove liners for $497.90 with tax from Motorcycle Super store. I would need the controller as well but for this price I could barely buy the over pants from Gerbing.
I had gerbings pant liner. They were pain in ***. Finally went with the pants. Pants are the way to go. So I have gloves, jacket liner and pants. Wish I did this years ago. I just outfitted my wife with the same. Got everything used on line one piece at time. 100 for jacket liner with dual control, 125 pants and 100 gloves. All gerbings. Don't know anything about First Gear but real happy with gerbings. You can call Grand Prix Motorsports in Colorado and get 20 % off Gerbings, no tax if out of state.
My legs and butt are all that will fit in my jeans so I went with the water proof heated pants and wear under armor running gear under them.
Try not to worry about the costs if you can, I have somewhere around $750 in my heated gear and it is worth every single penny and then some when you need it.
I need to try the liners on somewhere but from looking at them online they look like they would be a pain in the *** to try and fit under jeans as you stated they were...lol... I need to look for some used on craigs list or somewhere.
I would suggest that you go by you're local BMW dealer (most carry Gerbings) and try the liners and gloves on in person. You want the liners and gloves to fit fairly snug to work properly. If you wear your jeans really tight the pant liners may be an issue and by trying everything on in person you'll know for sure without having to return. I believe First Gear and Gerbings has similar sizing and you'll definitely want a dual temp controller for whichever brand you choose. Once you have the jacket liner and gloves you will most likely find that you don't need the pant liners because you're so **** warm.

Reason: added
I had some heated chaps (popular company started with a V I think, not around anymore?) that worked pretty good and easy on/off (blew out of saddle bag one day??) but don't think anyone makes them anymore? I have bohn under armor that I used to wear on dirt bike but too much of a pain to wear street riding very often. I have non-heated Firstgear overpants I wear with heated liner and gloves. Keeps me warm enough???
I was originally gonna start with the gloves. The sales guy talked me into starting with the liner and it was the right move. What a difference in riding. No more Michelin an with 12 layers and not being able to move. I got the gloves the next year with a schampa fleece gordito ask. Dual controller from gerbings and I love it. Very happy. I don't wanna be bothered with liner pants so I wear thermals and chaps and I'm comfortable. Whatever you choose the heated gear is a great investment and you can't go wrong.
I just got the gloves pant liners jacket and socks from j&p for christmas they are gerbings wife claims she got it all for 350. during the christmas sale they had we are gold members too so more of a discount. Th directions say they are a mid layer so that would be outside jeans but under chaps if i am reading it right. Oh and gerbings make the harley stuff for them so if you want to try it on go to the dealer.
Don't bother with the pants liners. They're a decent idea if you wear your pants super baggy, otherwise they're worthless. The heated pants (I have the older Extreme Element ones) are fantastic. Big enough to go over pants if I'm riding to work, snug enough to wear over Under Armour when I'm just out riding. They're insulated and waterproof. Worth every penny.
If you cruise the forum classifieds here and/or at ADV Rider, you'll find a used pair.
I have both. The liners and the heated pants. Started with the liners and as they were warm and worked well. They got to be a pain always putting them on under your jeans. And when you stopped after it warmed up for a bit a pain to take off. The heated pants that are waterproof are the way to go, quick on and off. No question in my mind. Gerbings Extreme Element heated is by far the ticket... http://www.thewarmingstore.com/gerbi...l#.UsjgQ7QexOQ
