I have had rims changed up to 21 front and kept 16 on back. The shop obviously replaced the tires, and did so with Avon Cobras. I have read a lot and reviews look good, however I thought I would through it out to see what owners think of them. I ride a RK.
I have that same set up concerning the size of the wheel and same tires. Excellent tire by far. Not sure on the wear just yet because I'm back and forth between two bikes so they might last a little longer than someone who only has one with the Avon Cobras.
Avon makes excellent tyres, so they are a good choice IMHO. However do check their website, as you will probably find the pressures should be higher than for stock tyres.
I've got them on my sg... was told to keep the pressure at max. 9500 miles on the front and it looks real good yet. Back is newer... but definitely grips the road better.
Avon's are soft and sticky thus they do not last nearly as long as stock Dunlop's. The Michelin Com II is a dual compound like the stock tire designed for higher mileage. Cobra's are fine on a sporty but a bagger weighs 400 lbs more than a sporty.
As far as psi I recommend running at the stated max PSI on teh sidewall of the tire for best results. If you ride a lot you will not be happy with Cobra mileage, I know I wouldn't be. If you don't ride that much it may not be an issue.
Hey thanks for the info. On some of the reviews I read, it gave me the impression the Cobra is "new and improved"??? -- very high mileage? Not sure if that's accurate. They also said they were designed for big Honda Gold wings. My bike guy says its the best Avon makes for a bagger. Mileage or longevity is not as a huge concern as safety/holding the road. I think tires should be the last thing a guy skimps on IMO.
A cobra is a great tire but anyone telling you it is made for a bagger is wrong. It will stick great just not last too long. Probably 5000 miles or so. Let's see if any of the other manufacturers like Metzeler and the ME888 come out with new sizes this year. For 120/70/21 and 180/65/16 a Michelin Commander II is where my money is.
