Default Gear Shift Linkage

Finally changed out the stock gear shift linkage. I followed the instructions for the new one but there was no way the front linkage would fit on the inside of the shift lever so I installed as shown in the pic. But the linkage is not straight to the back lever. Do I need to adjust the front foot shifter to bring the shift lever forward and then install the linkage on the inside?

Have mine installed just like you on my last two bikes. I use HD instructions as a guide since most of the instructions they write don't make much sense to me.

that same linkage comes stock on the cvo bikes. mine is installed on the front side of both levers.

did you try just threading the mount bolts through the heim joints on each end before you tighten them down?

Its fine. The rotating ball in the heim joints allows for a little bit of offset.

I have a new one on my bike and the new instructions tell you to offset it

I did but the only way to get the front on the inside without hitting the jug would be to move my foot shifter.

looked at your picture again. i'm feeling kinda punky today so i missed it the first time around, but it looks like your shift likage is on the outside of the levers, ie further away from the engine. that is how it should be. mine is the same, only the bolt is pushed through from the back and the nut is on the outside.

the important thing is, is it binding anywhere or is it allowing you to shift smoothly? if smooth, then no worries.

It seems to working but I need to take it out on the road later today. Is your bolt head on the inside and the acorn nut on the outside? I have mine reversed but have the old nut on the inside. The bolt needs to be a few millimeters longer.

Mine in mounted the same way, I think the spacer under the cover on the rear lever gives it the offset which is normal
