That's the hole reason for the hime joint, that's why they're there. It doesn't have to be lined up for them to work properly.

Is there any benefit to a different shift linkage over stock other than its pretty looks? More ridged? Better feel? Sexier?

A stock shift linkage like 25 and uses a cuff joint

The fancy schmantzy ones for 130
Use a heim joint. Which is slickly better.

But not a 100 dollar difference. People may try to justify it. But it's a 130 dollars of chrome go fast doo dads.

thats why on my old bike, i spent about $10 and replaced the cuff joints with heim joints, and reused the stock linkage. and the heim joints vs cuff joints do give a better feel on shifting.

here you go:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...nkage-mod.html

and if you want to be really cheap, you can get a chrome tube from the plumbing section at lowes to cover over the stock linkage

I thought it would be a chick magnet. Seriously, I didn't like the looks of the stock linkage.

The heim joint linkage is stronger, more reliable and provides a firmer feel at the shift level than the stock linkage. Styling is a subjective call, but the stock kinkage cheapens the appearance in my opinion.
