Default Super Easy Shift Linkage Mod

i thought i would take some pics to show how easy it is to do this mod. replacing the stock shift linkage is cheap insurance and is super simple to do.

first thing you need are all the parts:

2 heim joints (got mine from ebay, 5/16x24 rh, less than $5.00 shipped)
1 8 x 25mm bolt (you don't have to use metric, but the local store didn't have sae with the corresponding acorn nut)
1 acorn nut
1 5/16 x 24 x 3/4 bolt (you may need a slightly longer bolt if you need the spacer to keep front to rear alignment)
1 or 2 1/4'' spacers (optional)

all told, less than $8.00 in parts, takes about 10 minutes to do.....

don't look at how dirty the bike is, haven't cleaned it up since riding in the rain last time......

anyway, super easy, and i swear it makes it feel like it shifts more positive now (could be in my mind, but i don't think so) and won't leave you stranded out in bfe..... also notice that you put the acorn nut on the outside, so the hex head bolt is behind the shift lever, looks better that way.

if you find that the shift pedal is too low, take the whole thing off the spline and move it one tooth, that will give you more room.

I did the same thing to my bike. Works good and I don't worry about the stock connectors breaking. I have to add a drop of oil on them from time to time as mine start squeaking.

Good, cheap mod.

I also did that same mod. I agree, the gearbox feels as though it shifts smoother. Looks a whole lot better too. I used stainless joints, and a stainless rod.

Thanks for the DIY tip.
Been thinking about something like this all winter.
Just can't justify a $100+ for an aftermarket one.
Did you use stainless steel joints and bolts?
