The last thing you should do in a corner is hit the brakes hard on your bike. If you find that necessary, you are riding the curve wrong.

Big? Heavy? Slow? Unresponsive?.. What?
If thats the case, why do police departments use them as well as other slow heavy unresponsive modles?

Usually because the city that buys the Police bike gets a deal that they can't refuse. It's good for HD to have the bikes out there as advertising for the brand. Talk to any Motor Officer and they'll tell you the bikes are heavy, hot and need to be worked a lot to ride the way a Motor Officer needs to ride. As a street rider, we'll never need to ride the way the Officer needs to ride, unless you are running from one!

I disagree. I have no problems riding my work bike all day. It's as good as any other government issued vehicle. They do everything i need it to do. Not saying its the best out there, but it does just fine for me.

Actually cops have reliable big heavy comfortable bikes because they spend 8+ hours a day on them in bad traffic and haul around a lot of crap. Has every little to do with performance. Why would they have crown vics and now explorers if it was about performance?? CHP mustang/Camaro "pursuit" cars were a total fail because no one wanted to spend all day, every day in them. Just like crotch rockets would be.

Ride it for a while before you do anything to it. I have an 09 SG w/the 96 and it has plenty of power. I did the usual stage 1 upgrades, but thats it. I live in NY and my bike hibernates 5 months of the year and I still managed to put 35K on her. I have the quick detach tour pak for longer trips and fully loaded it still has plenty of power. Dont just follow the crowd here. Do what works for you. Do your stage 1 if you feel the need then put the rest of your money in fuel and just ride the S#&T out of it.
