does the fuel tank hold?!? I found out the hard way! I didnt notice when the fuel light came on (first mistake)... I didnt stop to get gas before I got off of the main highway (second mistake)...
I have been getting 36-39 mpg...I guess my riding style is changing as the bike is getting broken in...the last tank I went 182 miles and it took 5.008 gallons to refill...I dismissed this as a gas pump error...Last night, after the fuel light being on for a while, I was within amile of a station, but looked at the mileage and had been 173 since fill up, I figured I could go at least 182 like last time (third mistake) well, a couple more stops and further from gas...pulled away from a red light and the bike almost died?!? I thought Uh Oh! About a half mile later it died! I coasted for as far as I could and pulled over, thinking I was gonna have to call someone to bring me some gas (and explain what a dumbazz I was). I leaned the bike as far as I could to the left for a few seconds thinking I had a little left in the tank. It started! I got on it has hard as I could to get some speed up, it died again, but I coasted to within 100 feet of a gas station...I leaned it over again and had enough to get to the pump!
Long story short, I went 175.6...no fuel left...and it took 5.160 gal to refill...(34mpg?!?) Not gonna do that again!
NEVER trust a Harley fuel gauge! I go 185 miles max before I refuel and reset the trip meter everytime. I have gone 200, butI was pushing my luck then. I don't even bother with the fuel gauge.
I usually look for the 160 mark, and when I fill up it's around 4 gallons, usually a little less. 34MPG is bad, I'd consider a dyno, or something to explain why you are getting 10MPG less than most.
I start looking at 200. Get 46 mpg on my 2000 Ultra. But now that I just had some 26g cams installed, and put on some V&H Basics, we'll see how that changes.
I have an 06 rkc, i usually fill up at about 180mi, the most i've pushed it was 192mi if i remember correctly it took 5.003 gallons it was still running when i pulled into the gas station....when i took the cap of and looked inside it was dry!! i guess i just made it..
the bike is stock except for v/h slipon's stage 1 air filter and race tuner..
dealer told me once the light comes on you have about 20 to 25miles...
Yep, on my '05 EG when that light comes on you'd better IMMEDIATELY head for the nearest station. I'd say 20 miles is about right til you're walking. I don't like pushing my luck that far!
My Stage II 95" EG Classic gives me about 35 mpg's at best... I've always wondered if this is what I should be getting or not. I don't ride it hard, I'm easy on it and most of my miles are on the freeway on a one hour commute each way, so I should be getting optimal mpg's out of my bike.
