I'm interested in this set-up as well. Let us know what your friend thinks of this kit.
X2 ... I too have almost decided to do the True HID's that SoCalMotoGear is selling while I have the fairing off for the Titanium gauge mod .... another thread is having me re-think the decision though.
I have the bi xenon HID in an E-code glass housing. I don't ride much at night but the few times I have, the light doesn't seem to bother oncoming traffic and does a good job of lighting up the right lane and shoulder. I like it because it's very visible in the day lite and matches the white led rings on the turn signals.
While I do not have the LED Daymaker yet...I agree with the OP on not wanting the passing lights. From what I've seen so far from threads is people love the Daymaker just not wild about the width of the light in corners. The reflective LED (or similar truck lite) sounds wider but more difficult to see in day time on some angles. So it seems highly subjective...but are then better than stock halogens?
I did replace the dual halogen on my 14 sgs a week or so ago with hd's reflector led, to damn cold to test but lots brighter in garage than stock halogen was. I'm hoping since it uses the reflector instead of the projector led that the width of the beam will be on par with the halogen, just brighter, looks similar to TL7 just looks better, IMO. Adjust recommendations was measure from floor to center of headlight, say 35" or whatever it was, take that same measurement and mark on a wall 25 feet away and the top horizontal beam should be adjusted to that level, I had about 2 1/2 turns higher from stock setting to get it there. Again when it warms up I can give a better report, keeping fingers crossed all is good!
Also when viewing the displays at the dealer, the reflector was much more visible at angles that the more expensive projector type.
My buddy still has not casted a vote in any way for the HID setup from socalmotorgear.com. He wants more time with them before he tells me anything, granted he doesn't ride as often as I do either and doesn't get out of town a night to really test the headlights.
I did notice the other day that they do cast a bluer light than what I originally thought. Not sure of that matters to anyone or not.
I did readjust my LED headlamp and it does seem a little better. It was aimed way to high in an effort to see through turns that just didn't pan out. So I aimed them down and they are throwing a lot more light where it needs to be and not straight into the air. Still not happy with them in the corners though. But they are even better in a straight line.
I have the Truk Lite Phase 7 and Spots on my 2013 Ann Ultra and couldn't be more happy with them. That being said, My brother had a FatBoy that he replaced his front turn signals with Custom Dynamics White Ghost Ring/Amber LED's and they did a fantastic job of filling in the road in front of and down range quite well IMO
I have had my TL 7 LED's on for 3 weeks and I am extremely happy -- I do a fair amount of riding in the mountains at night and do no have any problem seeing the whole corner when leaned over in the turns -- I have even run low beam without the passing lamps on and can see just just fine. With the high beam no problems at all.
I just ran across this HID setup in another thread and i think this is the route I'm going. HID's have a very good light dispersion from side to side and bright as hell. Love them in my cars over halogen bulbs and they are cheaper than the LED's with much better side lighting.
I don't think you can use that kit on our 14's since we have duel bulbs but I wonder if you can use these theres not enough info to ascertain fitment but for $50 the price is sure right.
I am running the P-7 and at first I was very disappointed with it and the lack of cornering light.
I previously ran the Bosch light housing and a Candlepowerinc rallye bulb, I ran this for years on different bikes and was very happy.
I took the time to ride a very dark night and left the trim ring off and made adjustments until I felt it was as good as it gets.
I thing the p-7 has such a definite light cutoff that we perceive it is worse than it is and fixate on it.
After running the P-7 for a while there is no way I would ever go back to a main light halogen again.
