your bike ? anyhow its nothing that 750 bucks wont fix.

just wondering how common this is.
yes i did
about august or so my abs light came on
and i checked the codes which was u1040
couldn't figure out what that code was
and checked all the obvious stuff like wires off ,fuses etc
anyhow ended up taking it to the shop and thats what they
told me i need a abs module which is located under the rt hand side cover
just wondering if this is a common thing or not i have been riding it with just
standard brakes for now . iwill get it fixed but 750 bucks cuts into the wallet
just a bit.

I had the issue with a 2006 BMW k1200S. I went to ride the bike and the ABS light stayed on. The brakes were very hard to pull so I took the bike to the dealer. Got a call that the ABS unit was the issue and the price was $2500.00 for the unit plus $150.00 for installation. I argued with the dealer that a 3 year old bike with 11K miles and this should not have failed. The dealer said they could not do anything so I called BMW of North America and pleaded my case. They put me in touch with someone who took down my info, ask what dealership had my bike, and said I would hear something in a few days. About three days later the dealership called me and said the part was on the way and all I had to pay was the installation. I was happy with that and the bike was fixed. My point is sometimes you need to make a few calls to get what you want...you have nothing to lose.
Yea, I friend of mine paid over $500 for his module at the dealer. Eitrher way that's expensive as hell, good to have a extended warrenty. Hell that alone alone will pay for itself., good luck to all of us.
