Default Clutch question

My Pop has an 02 FLHP 25,000 miles on it, and his clutch is REALLY stiff. I have an 01, and there's no comparison. Would you guys start with trying to lube the cable, or does this sound like something with the clutch itself ?

I know you can't really diagnose over the computer, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem ?

I tried a search, and found a few on clutch assist.

Lube the cable, but check for kinks or binding bends in the cable. I use dry graphite lube, but there are special products made for cables too.

lube works wonders
hit all the pivot/moving parts on the lever and cable too
makes a big improvement in effort

you can check the cable for free easy movement.

if your bike had a previous owner they may have installed a " easy boy lite clutch kit", which is still made by Burly...about $30.

this installs inside the tranny end cover and increases the leverage...longer pull, less effort. ( HD went to their own version of this about 2007)

install takes almost no time, esp is the header is not in the way.

Definitely start with lubing the cables.

Watched a video with them taking the cable off, and using a special tool, is this right ? Cable should move back and forth inside the covering pretty easy (while off the bike), correct ?

Thanks !

with the cable off the bike it should move very freely. I wouldnt take the cable off the bike just to lube it

Default Clutch questiion

I have 2003 electra glide classic. Always kept cable and pivot points lubed. Cable did go bad after all the years. Checked with cable unhooked and definitely had stiff spot in it. Installed klockwerks ergo bars, new clutch cable and a Mueller power clutch where clutch cable hooks on to. Amazing difference. Close to half of the effort of stock set up.

They weren't using silicone-lined cable sleeves on 2002 were they?

Sounds like the thicker SE diaphram spring if the cable moves freely and is not binding
