With the metal frame cross members in most trailers, I was thinking I'd mount the bracket in to one of those. Another idea would be to mount them through the floor like the install video shows, only use longer bolts and run a strip of flat iron from one side to the other under the floor and tack it to the side frames.
On the CVO forum someone was talking about seeing a display at some show where they had an Electra Glide Ultra with the fluids removed hung upside down over the booth being held by one of these...
When I was racing we had a trailer capable of holding 6 bikes. we drilled 2" holes in the floor and installed D Rings at specific locations. You can get them at any trailer supply house.
Using a small zip tie we would lock the front brake and strap the bikes down both front and rear. From Calif to Sturgis or Daytona, never once had a bike move.
It's a catch 22. They believe that me please would pay the cost if they realized how good it is and the people (us) say we would buy it if it didn't cost so much. In the end we both lose for the most part. If the cost went down they would get more sales, but would they keep it the same quality at a lower cost?
I can tell you guys that is the only way to haul a bike. I recently bought an 07 Street Glide and had to go a couple hundred miles to get it. I don't own a trailer right now and a friend of mine said I could borrow his and he had a great way for me to haul my bike. Man was he right. That bar is so simple and easy to use and it takes all the compression off of your suspension. And is way more secure that any strap or front wheel lock. I was cautious the first 20 miles but after that I hammered down.
This makes the bike part of the trailer. I will buy one with my next trailer forsure .And if you have A enclosed trailer and rolled it your bike would be hanging there when you opened the doors if you bolt it to the frame.
marketing theory: cost vs volume - would cutting their margin (not price) in half bring in twice as many customers? if they make $100 on each one, that's only a $50 price reduction.
I didn't trust the floor on my trailer so I put an extra sheet of steel 12"x 30"x 3/16" on the underside of the trailer. I felt the 4"X6" pieces could suck right through the 3/4" plywood. Other than that the product is great. I do strap all four corners just cause I can
