Default DIY rear fender overlay

Has anyone made their own rear fender overlay using fiberglass. I got a plastic one and I am not happy with it. Just curious if anyone has done this. It does not seem too hard, I'm just curious about whether to use a mold or go with an overlay method. It will only extend from under the tail light / tag bracket and about 4 inches below the original fender and wrap around the fender towards the bags. I have extended bags already. I can use some old metal fender/saddlebag filler panels to secure to the chrome side pieces.
This will be done on a 06 Road King.

Or another option do what I did and buy a cheap fender extension off $ebay for $85 and trim, shape and mold it into your fender.
This way you keep the strength of steel fender but have the custom look we all love

Thanks guys, gotta admit didn't do it myself, took it to a local custom shop to have the work done, so happy how it turned out.

Looking at the pics from my body man, no not a lot of bond.

Wanted something different from the normal overlays
