hate to ask such a silly question but does anyone have any tips or method and/or tools they used to get that darn cotter pin out? I've read instructions online but all they say is "took a while to get the cotter pin out" etc.
i got the board, and the brake nut off no problem but i can barely even reach the cotter pin except ti barely feel the direction it's in. maybe needlenose but i can't even see getting a tool in there.
thanks. i'll try that. I put the new pedal up to see the placement and I can already tell it's going to make all the difference. i added new angled foot pegs that make it perfect to rest the heal of my foot on the board and the ball/toe on the peg. I have to use the heal of my foot to use the current break pedal. i can't imagine even someone shorter than me using that brake pedal comfortably. and I'm only 6'1"
Just installed one last night on an 05 Ultra. I used locking needle nose pliers to remove the cotterpin and also to install. Had the bike up on a lift and got to the pin from the bottom. You can rotate the pin to where it is easier to clamp onto the cotter pin. Looked like it would be a booger to remove but actually quite easy to get to, just make sure you have good light or maybe that's just my old eyes.
When I was installing my EZ Brake, my son in law was there and he has very long slender fingers. In the absence of someone like that long bent nose needle nose priers work reall well and as was said earlier, you are really going to love that pedal
Used a dental pick to reach into the loop and then pulled. That pin is so thin that it came right out with no problem. To put back in, used long needle nose pliers.
I've been thinking about that pedal too. Anyone know how much different it will be that my stock 04 RK Classic pedal? According to the pics on the ezbrake website, looks like it will just be a little lower than my existing brake.
When I put the chrome one on my 05 Ultra last year I used a long thin awl. Pulled it out without
a problem. To put it back in was the trick. I used a combination of the awl, needle nose plyers and a lot of patience.
i just finished insatlling the ez brake on my 07 street glide...............a piece of cake ..
but i had long bent nose pliers that allowed me to get in there for the cotter pin removal.
but now, i noticed that while underway there is some vibration showing in the brake pedal that was not in the oe.
is this unusual ?
also, there is a grease plug in this brake .............?????????/any reason why?
and, it fitted even though i have the black hole exhaust with the big diameter pipes .
