If they are identical, why are the terminals and moldings on the case different? The same factory can manufacture items to different specs depending on the customer's requests. I'm not saying you are wrong but the fact that batteries are built in the same factory certainly doesn't mean they are identical.
The company I work for manufacturers electrical equipment, we source all our big transformers ( dry type, cast, 3 phase, large ) to one company. I had to go to that company one day for a service call. While I was there I did the plant tour. Wouldn't you know, this manufacturer of transformers makes all the transformers for the big four electrical manufacturers in the US... They were slight different, but for the most part identical.
I'm thinking about replacing my ETX30L as it is going on 3 years.
My original was 4 years old and probably didn't need replaced but I did anyway, and am contemplating doing the same with the ETX30L, now 1 year earlier.
It might be considered to be excessive/wasteful, but I consider it to be cheap insurance if there is such a thing.
One of those things I would rather have and not need rather than need and not have, such as stuck in Bumfak and have to call a tow, if you could get one.
$33-50 bux a year depending on how often you change your battery is really pretty cheap in the "HD" world of expenditures.

I have been looking at batteries as well. Mine is giving me the tell tale signs that it's days are numbered. Been looking at one made by Power Source as well as the Napa Legend. The Power Source battery has caught my eye with the 600cca.
Still a good idea to carry these.
