One of my small gauge lights went out. HD dealer said that on the 2010 and up bikes, the bulb can't be changed and that I needed to spend $55 on a new "sealed" gauge. Is that all bullshit?
Thinking about sending mine in to get the mod but not if I can't change the lights on the smaller gauges. 2010 Roadglide BTW.

Mine is 2009 FLHX but the Gauges should be the same. It's a 194 push in style bulb. Mine has a black holder for the bulb that pushes into the back of the gage. Easier to get to on SG vs. RG. Still doable.

Thanks much. That started as my main question. I can do without the glow.

big time bs. the only sealed gauges where you can't get to the bulbs are the speedo and the tack. the other gauges have a small plug on the back that pops out and you can change the bulb out.

i did this on my 2010 roadglide so this is not conjecture. it is possible also that your bulb didn't go out, but that the holder itself got knocked out of the hole in the back of the gauge and fell back into the fairing. have you had your fairing off lately?

If so, what were the pros/cons?
I changed mine to red in order to match the tac and speedo. It's a real easy task. They look badass at night.

Thanks for the info! It just didn't seem right to me at the dealership. I haven't pulled the fairing off in awhile but will do this weekend to see what I have going on.

Anyone actually change out the lights on the tach/speedo themselves. I am from the train of thought that if I can open up and work on aircraft radios, then opening up a Harley speedo can't be to much more difficult.

I did mine. The red is a perfect match for the radio. I used our soldering microscope cuz them LEDs are tiny.

Default Speedo and tach leds

What lumen LED did you use on the speedo and tack and were the 194's used in the smaller gauges the same lumen? How many LED bulbs did it take to do the speedo and tach? Are there any secrets to taking the speedo and tach apart ? Thanks in advance
