Last year my wife bought a 2009 Street Glide for my anniversary with very few miles. It still has less than 10k.
Just curious, Anyone ever get an extended warranty for their bike? I do most of my own wrenching, but some of the internal fixes can be pretty pricey for parts alone, so, I am curious if it is even worth looking into.
I bought one for the peace of mind on long trips. If you don't ride far from home might not be worth it. I had the coverage on past bikes, had to replace one motor. Got my moneys worth out of that one. I think it comes down to how much faith do you have in HD to build a reliable product? Yeah, me either. Thats why I got it.
I bought my CVO last may. It was one model year old, had 6,000 miles on it. I bought the ESP because I ride a lot, and I ride with a bit more.....enthusiasm.....than most. Since May the warranty has replaced......
- Two tires
- The ECM
- The stereo (twice, it looks like)
- Both pistons and cylinders
- The battery
And it's still being diagnosed at the dealer, so there may be more.
Consumer report says it's a waste. It's insurance. But consider your milage you will truly put on it and if it truly is in good condition or not. Normal ridding is not going to hurt the internals you are probably talking about for 100K. There are people on here who flog it pretty hard and only wear out the piston pin bushing after 100K. Then they are those who twist the crank. Insane riders do that..(just my opinion but I rarely exceed 4K and you are not going to twist a crank under that) Mine has 40+K and still runs like new with perfect compression. I change oil once a year and the filter ever other time. Little more. If you do get it, read the fine print and dicker on it. Your bike will probably require an inspection if out of warranty.

A bigger waste of money is buying something you have no faith in it's being reliable.
If I didn't think they where, I be riding something I did have faith in.
I bought the extra 5 years on the Limited just because of all the new electronics and wet heads... I have 7 years now and wlll probably keep the bike for 10.
