I bought it from a harley dealer and they had just done the 20k service so it is possible that it was left over oil from the change I guess.
That would be my guess. And you could ask the dealer who the previous owner was and call him or her, to see if it was a problem before he traded it in.
Had the same issue on mine. Took the filter back off, got a new $10 oil change gasket set from the dealer, got a new fram filter from Wal-Mart, replaced filter and oring, rode it for 50 miles, checked filter tightness again and haven't had a drop since. It's been 4800 miles.
If it turns out not to be the filter. YOu might look here. It is real close to the same area at first thought it was a leaky filter. I think this is the wires that go to the stator. This plug is known for dripping oil I found out. I cleaned it real well and used some high temp RTV for oil. Kind of pulled it out and worked it under the plug lip as best I could then let the plug down and ran a "bead" around the outside as well. So far it has held for about 9,000 miles. As the plug is molded on the wires the other choice was to replace the stator. I tried the RTV and so far it is working.
How long you had it? Fresh oil change before you brought it home? There's a lot of places oil can sit up around the oil filter coming from a sloppy oil change when replacing oil filter, could be from that.
Rich I think you might be right. I cleaned everything then put powder and ran it again. The front 2 bolt mounts are the only wet parts. I guess it is possible for oil to have dumped into those and is working its way out when the engine get warms and shakes.

Good deal I hope that's it. Like I said I'm kinda of a clean freak and I some times do it, I might get a small drip wipe it up 4 or 5 times before it stops or I get pi$$ed enough I go to the carwash lol. lot of places it can sit up in there.
I hope I attached the photo correct. The part that seems like it is leaking is between what I would call the oil cooler mount that is attached to the engine block that the oil filer covers. it seems like it is leaking between the block and the piece the oil cooler hoses attach to. Is there a gasket there?
