as far as frame geometry goes, the only difference between the street glide and you ultra is the 1'' shorter shocks on the streetglide. now, your seat may be much 'poofier', but that is often changed out anyways.
Why lower? For some it's a matter of comfort. For others it's function. And for some it's about attitude, stance and style, I personally love the lowered look. I've lowered my vehicles for years. Stance is everything, if you don't get or understand it you never will.

SKRATCH has this right. I am lowered 1" front and rear on my 12' SG but due to need for reach. A 29" inseam does not allow for reaching the ground without lowering the bike. I used blocks in the rear and had HD put spring kit in the front forks. I also found that the choice of seat was also important for example: I found a seat off of an Electra Glide with "LOW" on the bottom which sets me down a little more than the stock seat but still give plenty of cushion. I have no adverse handling or shock travel issues.

My last bike, did short shocks on the rear. I left the front stock, since I like that stance/look. Intended to do the same on my '14 SGS when I first got it. I thought the rear shocks would feel too mushy, like my old stock air shocks, but the SGS feels great stock.
Changed out the seat to Corbin Hollywood, and feel better with feet while at a stop. I would like it lower, but I'm ok with it as is.
Rear suspension feels great compared to my old bike. Liking floor boards not scraping as often, let alone the frame. I dig the stance of a dropped rear, but liking riding hard more.
Then again, talking about this, I remember I have some old 10.5" shocks that I wore out. Now sorta want to try them out, just for kicks, lol.
I had my rear shocks lowered 1.5" by Bitchin Baggers. I ran with that awhile then I additionally put in the H-D lowering kit in the front forks and dropped them an inch. I like that a lot better along with the rear lowered. I would go even lower but I don't want to scrape on turns. So far, I have not had scraping problems but I also don't try to slalom through turns either. I do run a little more air in the rears and the fronts are stiffer with the different springs and the Screamin Eagle oil I run. It isn't the Cadillac ride so many consider so important, but it's no problem riding long distances either.
