two days ago I installed progressive 944 Standard Duty Spring (Lighter Spring) on my 2010 FLHTP. I am 225 and ride solo all the time, Initially I had the pre load set at 4 grooves, with 4 grooves setting I got thrown around from my seat whenever I hit uneven road surface it was super bad I could not believe it, then I kept on lightening the pre load up to 1 groove today yet it is still killing my kidney whenever I hit a small pothole...Road irregularities and small bump is fine, but small pothole still feels like I am riding a pogo stick, no bottoming out problem but it just ride absolutely rubbish...What's up with this?? I hit a broken road surface today and I got thrown from my seat so high I almost lost control and my kidney really hurt so bad, my bike is police bike so I ride with Police air ride seat set at 30psi pressure, I cannot imagine what would happen if I ride with normal seat...
Before switching to 944 I ride with Progressive 12" 412 with HD spring and it was so much nicer, so much more compliant with bumps and small pothole but bottoming out on potholes, I changed to 944 in hope to get a nicer ride and fix my bottoming out problem but I get this awfully uncomfortable ride instead...
Is there any way I can fix this problem or I should just throw this 944 to the rubbish bin and buy an Ohlins?? __________________
I'd sell them and pick up a set of JRI,s. They are great out of the box and break in even better. Call Howard at MotorcycleMetal. He is a forum sponsor and shock guru. Only sell and services the best.
My' '09 rode like crap so I put the 944s on it, rode like crap, the last week I rode the bike it jambes my neck three times, I haven't had that happen since the 80s. I also have an '05 Road glide with 95K and stock suspension that rides like a baby carriage, Ohlins are the best suspension on the market but another thousand dollars, my fix was to just sell that '09 pig and ride the bike I love.
I put the 944s on one of my bikes a couple years ago, I thought they sucked and took them back off. Ride was way too stiff, I was told I could put the lighter springs on the but WTH why should I have to buy new springs for a new set of shocks that were supposed to be for touring bikes

JRI or Ohlins?? Too many great review on the Ohlins and I think it's cheaper than JRI?

Not an option for me, IMO 09 and up frame is lightyear beyond in handling department, when I first ride my 2010 I was 'WOW' I can ride my bike as aggressive as a Jap bike, it is just the shocks that I really hate, both front and rear...

If it's from couple of year ago then it must be the 940, not 944. So what shocks did you end up with that satisfy you?
So changing to other brand is the only way to go? Should I wait till a couple thousands miles for breaking in the shocks or 944 is really just that bad in smoothing out bump?? I have no complain in smooth road, but where I live with that many potholes especially after rainy season I am afraid I am going to need kidney transplant soon...
I have standard 944s set to the first grove. I also 6'/ 220 and ride solo. Ride is much better than stock to me but have a set of Ohlins ready to go on. Give Progressive a call, maybe they can help ya out?

I have no complain in the handling department...It is just the bump compliance that's really hurting me. I also set the groove to the lightest setting now...I guess I will just sell my 944 and get ohlins..
