Default Requesting help about a Tour Pack

I'm planning an extended trip in Colorado this summer and need more storage than just my saddlebags. I have considered buying a backrest and a T Bag type luggage. Then I saw some pics on this forum with Tour Packs. I have a 2014 Street Glide. I would appreciate any help about Tour Packs. I don't need it to have a backrest since I ride solo. I would like to have the type that can be mounted on my 4 point docking hardware. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

HD tour pak is nice because it truly is waterproof and huge. Riding solo I don't think I could fill it up (but the wife seems to be OK making that happen).

Since you have a 2014, used is really not much of an option. I know HD makes detachable hardware for it, but again I am not up on 14's. I would get a parts list together and call up Hale's in Ohio, nice discount and no tax (not sure if taxes are an issue in Illinois but they are here in NY). Good guys but they will not look stuff up for you, must call with complete list with part #'s. Do some research and save some $$$.

No I do not work for them, but will pass along a good tip.

There have been a couple of threads recently of guys adding the HD tourpak to a 2014 Street Glide.

Basically you need the tour-pak, the two up detach bracket and the 4 point mounting kit for the bike. I just kinda did the opposite to my Limited. I made the Tour-Pak detachable. Like having two bikes.

I second Hales HD. I get all my stuff from them. Get a list of part #'s and call.

Also...you can mount the tour pack forward so the backrest is for you (rider) vs. passenger.

A used T bag might cost $100.

a color match tourpak and detachable mount...closer to $1000.

ebay options somewhere in the middle

T bag, you arrive, carry it into where you are and have all your stuff....pack it up throw it on the bike and go.

it really comes down to what you really need and your budget.

I just installed a chopped tour pak with detachable hardware on my '14 SGS. The color matched tour pak was spendy (I can't remember how much or I just don't want to) and the hardware is as follows. You mentioned that you already have the 4 point docking hardware.
Detachable rack - 200
Back rest - 160
I've also purchased the premium liner and luggage which isn't necessary.
The 2014 chopped tour pak has larger interior space than the 2013 and older King tour pak.
I've used T-Bags since the late 90's and have had great luck with them as well. I just wanted something a little nicer.
A few pics in this link.

Good luck and Colorado is a great place. Ride safe!

The T bag option is much cheaper and a great backrest for a solo rider. Just put it on the inside of the backrest. It makes long rides much more comfy.

Another option, for about the same price of a sissy bar set up is to buy the 4 point HD touring pack bracket, but put on a budget ($100) Mutazu Tour Pak.

It is sized between a chopped and full size tour pak, and looks great on a Street Glide.

It comes with a back rest, lock, and opening stays that cost a bunch on the Harley rig.

It weighs a lot less than the HD and is OK quality (nowhere near the paint quality of HD, but still looks plenty nice to me).

This way you can lock up your stuff, and even be able to offer a ride if you see a poor lonely little lady on your trip.

Now you guys got me thinking...i have a RK with the tour pack...going on a trip out west for two weeks with the wife...it seems that having a T bag would be much better then a tour pack, pick the damn bag and in you go the the room...instead of packing and up-packing the tour pack...

So if i was to do it again...i'd buy the T bag instead of the tour pack...but then i would miss the extra lights on the tour pack.....jeez....decissions, decissions, decissions.

Done it both ways, added TP, T-bag style bag, have watched friends pack loose in SB's, TP, or with pull out suitcase liners, none ever really good just functional as you make them.

Our answer was to stay in at least one larger motel with laundry facilities or locate a Laundromat every three to four days, pack four days clothes in the TP of course wearing one set, extra gear in the SB's and some loose stuff in a TP topper bag with room for the daily buys. Take a few of those pellet style laundry soap in a bottle(we used medicine bottle) and a few fabric softener sheets with three rolls of quarters and is a non-event. Get too many daily souvenir goods find a UPS or USPS and box a bunch of stuff send it home or to a friend or neighbor. For two up we have not so far had a problem just take a little off time to do a few loads of wash.

Unless you wear the same clothes two or more days you cannot pack enough to cover for more than a week, some wear clothing to shreds buying replacement and pitching the old, there is not room on the ride even with a TP and extra bags and extra gear bags for great volumes of gear.
