Cost effective? That's over $40 a gallon. Just get gas 10 miles earlier?

Yeah but you get a free container to put it in. That's the savings right there. Those other containers cost more and you have to supply the gas. Plus I'm sure these won't leak or let fumes out sealed from the factory like they are. Joe
I have run out of fuel in about everything with an engine. Hell, I ran out of fuel in a fuel truck?? It is just another adventure. Usually meet nice folks or at least a laugh afterwards. I haul enough crap around for no reason, not adding a can of gas...
I'll mount them on the underside of a quck-detach backrest/rack.
The MSR 30oz bottles fit into them perfect. A little laquer thinner
takes off the yellow paint with just a little rubbing.

Perfectly fine for one who say only rides in town, and only during regular business hours. That person certainly has no need for a gas can or extra fuel.
Myself, there have been trips where I carried multiple gallons of extra gas, and needed every bit of it. As well having done things like spending the night on a remote gas station porch waiting for the to open the next day because I was out of gas and couldn't make it to the next closest station.
Basically, some of us ride in more remote places, and a bit more adventurously. So for some, a gas can and extra fuel is more of a necessity.
There's also that group that like to simply push it. They can occasionally run out. Having a manual reserve in the form of a few miles worth of gas means the difference of a lot of walking.

Why those that don't see the need feel like they have to post their opinions makes me laugh. Similar to those that have to state they use dino oil when somebody asks about synth. WTFC?
How many of you have actually needed the extra gas?
I have a Reda that saved the day on a trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway last year. Five of us were riding from Knoxville to Front Royal, Virginia, the morning after some severe weather moved through the area the previous evening. Somewhere after Bristol we stopped to take a break and fuel up but there was no power anywhere because of the storm. We found out there was no power for at least 50 miles around.
We divided that one Reda can between the 5 bikes and kept heading east. Eventually we made it to a town that had power. We were all sucking on the final fumes and no doubt that one gallon divided between us got us those last few miles.
One thing I've learned, though, is before the trip fill up the Reda can at a filling station that has a high pressure car wash. After filling it about 95% and tightening down the cap I walk over to the car wash and drop 50 cents for a high pressure spray to make sure I don't have any residual fuel on the outside of the can. I've never had any fume issues.

If you ride across Utah don't pass a town without fueling up.
Sometimes the next town is 70 miles, but the next one is 150, your screwed.
There where Gas stations between towns....
The good thing was, All the Stations had a list of the next gas stops going East and West....
I have one Reda can. Never used it but my buddy and I are planning a trip to Sturgis. I'm gonna get a second Reda can just for the piece of mind. If I never run out of gas the cost won't kill me. If wasted more cash on worse stuff.
One thing I don't like about the Reda can of the filler tube. I hate it. I might just carry a funnel. The funnel might come in handy for a buncha uses.

Ever done the walk of shame after paying double at a gas station for a cheap *** gas can? Ever do the math wrong or forgot to reset the trip odometer after adding a couple gallons at the last stop? Ever have a change in altitude or a mechanical issue change up your mpg's? Ever enjoy a mouth full of high octane or your lungs full of vapors from that last bit of effort getting the gas to siphon?
I'm with Black_Hog. If I never have to deal with any of that ****, it will be worth the price of admission for the peace of mind alone. One less overpriced dealer t-shirt!
