I see allot of subjects on here (and road glide forums) on different type of windshields. Well, I am looking at a 2013 road glide custom and I will need a windshield. On all the forums, nobody ever mentions the HD ones. Is this because they suck or not any good? The prices are around the same cost as aftermarket ones? With the 20 or 10% off when I buy the bike, should I buy a HD shield or not? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
before you spend the money on an hd shield, take advantage of their demo program.
personally, i have a 12'' windsplitter for summer, and switch it out for the 15'' windsplitter for winter. they work good for me, but then again, i'm only 5'4''......
everyone is a little different and has a different idea on what a good windshield should do.
if you don't have them, be sure to pick up the wind deflectors that snap on to your crash bar and fuel tank front mount bolt. those work pretty well also.
I've had 7 road glides over the past 10 years. I think I have purchased or used just about every windshield out there except the Madstad. That thing just looks damn ugly and I am not going to put it on my bike. Although, the people that have it swear by it.
that being said, the best results I have gotten from windshields are from windvest and the HD windspliter.
At the current time, I have two RG's an 04 and a 12 CVO. The CVO came with the windspliter on it and I had every intention of replacing it. After a few weeks of riding with it. I decided I really liked it and that has been my windshield of choice for the 12. The 04 had a 14 windvest on it in dark smoke. I really liked it and it did a good job. however, I dropped the bike one slick night coming into the garage from riding in the rain. Busted my A$$ big time on the concrete floor of my garage and at the same time, busted by windvest. So I replaced it with a windsplitter take off from a CVO as well.
I guess that shows you how much I like this version of the RG windshield.
I agree with Skratch, demo at the dealer is you best bet and those little plastice things on the crash bar, make one hell of a difference. Get em. best $30 bucks you will ever spend
Agree that you should demo what the dealer has to offer. 12" HD Windsplitter on mine and I like it just fine. Have the snap on wind deflectors and fairing lowers on mine, too.
Been there, done that. MadStad is the most functional, hands down. I don't put my bike in beauty contests and don't worry what others think. I have Windsplitters and 2 OEM shields along with a LRS all collecting dust. PM me if you want one.
klockworks windshield is the best for me, tried my friends hd one, (don't remember which model) and one other one but the clockworks seems to do the best job for me.
Madstad for me too. I've had 2 of the KW's and they don;t do near the job that the Madstad does. 2 KW's cost a little more than one Madstad. Get over it and ride comfortably. The RG is the ugly bike anyway.
