Default Progressive monotubes

I love it when UPS delivers. My Monotubes came in, going to drop off the bike tomorrow for my indy to install. He had them, that is where I first heard about the monotubes. I have already changed the oil in the rear stock shocks, best thing I did to the bike so far. My question is, should I upgrade the rear and if so what would complement the monotubes? Thinking about Progressive 416 but after I did the oil change in the stock shock would it be any better? I don't want to spend $1k on rear shocks. I would like to hear from those who put on the 416's or other progressive shocks and like the improvement over stock with the oil change. Maybe even Ohlins S36E. I ride mostly solo, and do camping trips on the bike.

I have the PS Monotube shocks on my '07 Ultra.
Love them.
Only need 5 oz. of 10W fork oil for the changeover.
Never need to do fork oil change again with the PS Monotubes.

I already had 412's on the rear. My stock air shocks "seemed" ok but after a change over to the 412's, the bike felt planted.
Now it rides like a sofa.
Love it!

You can get Bitubo's from Traxxion Dynamics for $550 that have adjustable rebound dampening and threaded preload adjusters. Best bang for the buck in the price range, as the dampening is adjustable. Critical feature in my opinion.

Dropped off the bike yesterday. I should have it back by Thurdays, my indy is going to work it in. He has both the monotubes and 944's in his Roadglide, I might consider the 944's. I will give my ride report after next weekend, going on a 3 day ride.

To my surprise I got the bike back today. Much better. Front end seams solid, not too stiff. The fluid inside was black and nasty. If you never plan on mono tubes don't wait till 50k miles to do a fork oil service, should have been done around 20k. More to come after weekend ride.

You don't say if you ride solo or two-up. While riding solo rear shocks are a personal thing, but when 2-up the rules change! The additional weight and the passenger's riding position over the rear wheel require a very much better quality shock than the stock air shocks IMHO.

All I can say is wow. The handling in night and day. Yes the mono tube are a bit firm, depending on the bumps, maybe a bit too firm. When your in a corner at 50 mph and hit a bump your glad you had this front suspension. Solid, keeps the bike stabilized. I ride 90% solo, and on trips with camping gear. I performed the rear shock oil change about 6 months ago and on the last trip put 20lbs in the rear shock. That was the perfect set-up for me. I even noticed better traction in the rain. Well worth the 600.00 bucks.
