I purchased the 944 STD's last spring and 75% of my riding is two-up, so sent them back to progressive and had the HD spring's swapped in late last fall. Progressive was awesome I paid for shipping to them, and they swapped the spring's and paid for the shipping back.

The 944's STD were an excellent shock solo, but really needed the heavier spring for longer trip's all loaded with wife and tour-pak, saddle bags.

I would definitely recommend the 944's with the HD springs

do I understand correctly, you have a choice between STD or HD spring, just two choices unlike the 3 choices offered by the more expensive shocks like Ohlins and JRI to better target the overall weight.

I'm 240 and the wife is 170, I put the 944's with HD spring on last year, when I ride solo its set at 1 notch and for both of us its 2 when the bike is fully loaded for a vacation I go to 3 notches just got to get your sag set right for two up you will need a 3rd person to help while both of you are on the bike once its set up and you know what setting you need all you have to do is open the saddle bag up so you can get your hand behind it and turn the adjuster ring takes me less than a min to change from one to the other

Great shocks, have them on my 05 Road Glide. 1 notch for around town, 3 notches loaded up for touring, both setting two up. Ride as good or better than HD air shocks plus a 1" drop that looks real good. And no cornering issues have been noticed.

While you're at it might as well put in the mono tubes in the front end.
Major difference there too.
No more nose diving.
