I second the welding store variety...ten bucks...shatterproof...wraparound, clear, or sunglasses, and when they fall off of where I put them and land face down on the concrete...I dont get bent outta shape...
I have been an Oakley man since 1985 when I bought my first pair of Oakley Blades. I still have these Blades and use them for shooting. I now have over 15 different pairs of Oakleys, my most recent set was the addition of MetalX Juliets.
They offer the best optics I have found.
As for Customer service....EXCELLENT!!!
I had a pair when I was a firefighter and one lazy Sunday afternoon I fell asleep on my bunk as I was on the back side of a 48. I laid the glasses down on my bed to the side AWAY from the door so I wouldn't roll onto them. Well, I heard the sounds of squad cars and I woke and rolled the other way where the window was!! D'OH!!
I sent them back to Oakley, in 3 days I had an Overnight Air package with new frames, no questions asked.
I have done this a few times, each with the same results. I also sent Oakley an e-mail a few years ago asking about replacement "Ear socks" (rubber on the temples) as I couldn't find the color I needed and I would like to buy a few pairs. I did not hear back from them for a few days when a box was in my mailbox with 6 new pairs. No charge
I wear RX glasses, have a pair of RX sunglasses, however, while in daytona for bike week I found a pair called fitovers. The look great, can not tell at all that they slip over your RX pair. At 45 dollars I could not go wrong. I carry these with me at all times, the car, bike and will on the boat as well.
I'm wearing the Panoptx Diablo as well. I picked mine up at Myrtle Beach and they scan your glasses and grind them in about an hour. The company is Eye Lenses Inc. and they even do progressive bi-focals.
I love the glasses for keeping out the wind and most dirt and dust. And the transition lenses allow you to ride night or day.
The problem with the glasses is the eye gasket. It sticks out almost 1/2 inch from your face and makes the glasses want to slide down your nose. Also on mine the gasket doesn't fit tight against the glasses so the wind shakes them so the glasses slip off and down on the gasket about a 32 of and inch and it allows for air and stuff to get it. It depends on what I ride how much of a problem this is. I will be going back up again this spring to have them check out the gasket to find out why it doesn'tclip in as tight as it should. I had a pair of Siroccos that they don't make anymore but they were too small for my face and blocked a lot of your side vision. The gaskets come out and turn the glasses in to big rimmed nerd glasses!
I'm going to look at the new Wiley-X line to see if they are thinner.
I just wear the cheap sunglasses designed for riding, available in clear or shaded lenses, UV400 rated and somewhat impact resistant. Theyre like $12, so when you DO sit on them, drop them, etc you wont have a heart attack like if they're $100+ like some I've seen. They sort of wrap around the side a bit and have the foam seal around the eyes so you dont catch a bug orgrit/sand thru the sides and are comfortable. The seal breathes, so no fogging, etc. I carry a clear pair and a dark pair so no matter time of day I've got what I need for $12 each.
I wish I liked the Panoptx or any glasses with the eye cups but I don't like the way they block my peripheral vision or the feel. The Vortex is the largest frame/lense that Panoptx makes a presciption for in the Speed series, air dam not eye cup. I guess I am going to try the Vortex and the Oakley Monster Dogs on the bike and see which offers the best protection. Pretty much anything will be an improvement over what I have been using for night riding!! Riding back from So. Dak. last year at night, we stopped for a refreshment and my buddies asked if I had seen the deer in the ditch.....nope. Scary.
Panoptix rock! I need prescription glasses so I ordered transistion lenses. They were out of stock in the frame color I wanted so they emailed me telling me they were going to ship another color frame and when the color I want comes in they would send them!
I can't recall the model frame I am using but thet fit very well with removal plastic/foam dust/wind guards so they can be worn as regular day/night glasses.
I wear Panoptx Sirocco Rx transition. They cost about $300 and are worth every cent. The convertible part makes them multi-use. I suggest you find a retailer and try them on before ordering online as the different models fit different heads. Excellent quality.
I got a coupla pairs of Crews Klondike Safety Glasses( clear and sunglasses), $3 bucks or so. I throw an extra pairin my bags in case I loan/lose/trashem ..pretty good glasses for the price...almost as nice as my $23 HD's (clear).
