Stage2 - for dummies
That's my two-bits worth.
To keep up with me you'll need to dump about three thousand or more.
As you learn more the more you'll spend.
SLIPS: I have SE2 slipons ready to go on
PIPE: I'd like a cat-free, does the brand matter? Or do i just get any factory pipe thats been gutted? Not interested in creating a race bike, just want heat and sound benefits.
AIRCLEANER: From what i read i will be ok leaving my factor airbox (can you confirm?) which is good because i really like the style of it.
TUNER: Do i NEED a tuner? If so, which one? Is it easy to put in or should i pay my dealer? Is it ok if i do the pipes myself and bring it there to just do the tuner, or will that void my warrantee or something. Very confused about the tuner ... or do i just need a D/L from the dealer? So confused.
Thanks all, hoping someone can dummy this down for me a bit.
Dummy pipes are for dummies.
All you really need to do is figure out what you're trying to accomplish. Yes, I know you said you are really confused but to claim such confusion puts you at the mercy of some just-barely-legal tricky marketing claims. Knowledge is your most valuable tool right now!
Slips...you have them so done with that part.
Pipe...a cat-less pipe will remove the heat generated by the cat. A cat-less pipe will do nothing for the heat generated by the motor.
Some report simply drilling out the cat has been successful for them...others have had problems. Don't know what camp you would be in going that route.
There are a few aftermarket manufacturers. Some have issues with rusting, fitment, and bung placement. True duals may decrease the back pressure and if it's decreased too much, you might have running issues...the motor needs a certain amount of back pressure to run properly. Again, you'll have to decide which one to purchase.
Air Cleaner...if you like the stock, stay stock. Some aftermarket units claim big increases in airflow. But remember, if your bike can only flow say 450 cfm's max, why do you "need" a fancy unit that's capable of flowing say 800 cfm's. Read between the lines and try not to get sucked into slick marketing advertising.
Tuner...no disrespect but this has been asked thousands of times. I think I've seen the same basic question more then 20 times just this past week but the answer is always the same. Tuners are another area that few really understand but are more then willing to give expert advice. Beware!
Yes, I can tune bikes. Yes, I understand the tuning process. Yes, I know the differences between simple plug 'n play devices and full tuning programs (and more importantly, what each can and cannot do). No, I don't give recommendations...some paying sponsors here complain very loudly when we speak negatively about their products. Yes, I have been "promised" banishment if I make additional similar comments.
If you're so confused on this one and you don't absolutely need to have the work done immediately, then step back, catch your breath, and begin to study the various options.
Until you're more knowledgeable with the subject of tuning, I'd suggest you hold off on any tuning decision until you can get a better handle on what will and will not get you to where you want to be.
Good luck!

As for me I purchased a freeflowing 2-1-2 exhaust of my picking a SE Ventilator Intake to get it breathing properly and then had the Stealer install a MOCO Cam/Tuner/HD Clutch kit that retained all factory warranty.
Sounds and run decent, looks good and no warranty concerns.
