Hello to all, I am new to the forum and hopefully will garner some info from those of you in the know. I am realtively new to the motorcycle community and even a newer Harley owner. I own a 2007 Harley Davidson Road King with Screamin' Eagle Mufflers but no other mods (yet!!!), and I love it. I know about most of the issues with this model year but I do have a few questions for anyone that knows.
1. At around 70-80 mph, the bike will ping pretty badly if I really punch it, any thoughts?
2. I have seen dual conversion kits on eBay which remove the H pipe from the exhaust make it a true dual set up and I am interested (more for the sound then the performance, I know TQ and HP numbers would dip). Has anyone had any experience using that type of product or should I just stay clear of that and save up for the Rhinehearts. Also are true duals legal in California for this model year?
3. I am also thinking about using a programmer for the ECU, whats out there and are they reliable for switching back and forth for when the California Smog ****'s come calling for a check up?
Welcome, this is a subject that comes up about everyday, Im sure you will get replies, but if you use the search function, there is extensive threads on all this that could help you out faster.
Welcome, just in case no one has told you be sure to use the premium grade of gas. Anything less might be the reason for the pinging. This of course is just IMHO.
Welcome, I would try some higher octane fuel, if thats not it then take it back to the dealer. I doubt any exhaust mods are legal, but people do it anyway.
Thanks for the replies, my Screamin' Eagles are the CA legal, and I do use high octane so it sounds like I will make a trip to the dealership soon. See you out there...
Welcome to the forum. You will learn alot here.
You said it does it between 70-80 mph , are you in top gear ? It kinda sounds like maybe the engine could just be lugging in to high of a gear.If so try droping down a gear and see if that helps. But with it being a new Bike It shouldn'tping at all. I'm sure your dealer will do something for you. Good luck.
