Default cam install

I've got all the stuff I need(cams, install kit,cam gears, and bearings, adjustable pushrods) except the tools. My local dealer wanted $800+ for the install,a local shop pretty much blew me off because I didn't by the parts from him,so I'm thinking about doing it myself. I've never undertaking something like this, but am fairly mechanically inclined, and have the service book. Is this a very involved process or should I just have someone do it?? any help?? Thanks.

This link shows a step by step for a big bore kit and cam install, maybe the cam part will help.

Pretty easy. I just completed this over the winter and a big bore job. I bought most of the tools made from a machinist and fabricated the others that I needed. Paid $85 for the inner cam bearing tool

It's a easy job. I did my first one after studying Harley Hog's sight. Use his site and the service manual and you will have no difficulties. I also rented my tools from the Perry Barth like said above.

i did mine recently and have posted here before about it. you can borrow a blind bushing pull kit and slide hammerat AZ to pull the inner cam bearings. heat the cam support plate in an oven to 200 degrees and you can gently remove the cams and bearings with a rubber hammer. when going back together put the cams and bearings in freezer bags and freeze over night. heat the support plate again and the parts almost fall back together. the inner cam bearings will go easily in place using an old cam as the driver. no need to spend any money for tools.
