I know this is crazy since I've used Amsoil now for several years but I'm thinking of trying to find a oil that has more ZDDP in it. (Zinc) Had a lifter roller wear after 27,000 miles and wondered if the extra zinc would help.

I've never seen a chart with it listed for comparison. You would think AMSOIL would be the first to prove how much better theirs is. I've never even heard of the stuff though so may have missed it.

Actually you can go to Amsoil web site and they compare all the other brands with all the testing. After looking at this again I'll probably stick with Amsoil. Everything else in my engine looked awesome except on 1 roller of the lifter which more than likely wasn't the oil's fault at all or they all would have been bad.

Check out Schaeffers racing oil. Besides syn oil they have a blend thats high in zinc. In fact they advertise hi zinc in all their oil. Just make sure you dont have a cat, they dont like zinc. US made

How about sending a sample of the oil to Blackstone Labs after 8000 miles and report back on the results. I did with Amsoil, USING AN AMSOIL FILTER, and results from Blackstone were excellent and their comment was to put another couple thousand miles on the bike next time before sending another sample in.

No opinion here, just facts.

I'm sure other quality syn oils would hold up just about as well.

Your results may vary. Past performance cannot predict future resutls.

Just replaced my lifters after 33K miles when it was opened for a cam change. Nothing wrong with them, just a "might as as replace with new while I'm in here."
Harley parts are a crap shoot when it comes to reliability: from compensators, to cam chain tensioners, bearings, to lifters, etc. Some get 18k miles, others get 80k and still not broke. My compensator went bad, acually was leaking, from where the wires exit after about 25K. I think it was about $800 to fix but covered under extended service contract. Just never know.
