I have not read the whole thread. But with a bike newer than an 11 or so, one really should run Harley Formula+ in the primary. This is the ONLY oil we have found to make the compensator live longer.
Normally, I would NEVER recommend a Harley oil... but through trial and error, amongst a bunch of us here and on other forums... that Formula+ gets "along" with the new style compensator, better than anything else we have found.
Motul make excellent lubes, however like all oil blends they are a compromise of different ingredients to reach specific goals. One may last longer, another run cooler. One may be great for valves, while another makes gears mesh nicely. One may be great for less drag and better fuel economy, while another may improve emissions. Some are better in cool weather, others on a hot track. Some recommend Diesel oil, other aircraft lubes. So many variables it makes your head spin.
Riding impressions are always welcome, as it seems everyone wants to get the best results, however the best results usually require extensive lab follow up to assertain what is really happening inside the motor.
Some use cheap stuff, and change it often. Others use the expensive stuff, but run it longer. Most do not really know what the heck is going on inside their engines, but only indicate "it feels better". (I fall into that category)
Used Motul in my Kawasaki. They actually make (or made not sure if they still do) Kawasaki brand oil. They had a color additive that made it green (looked like antifreeze) made it easier to see on dipsticks. Always performed well for me.
Really, I think all the premium oils are good. Just change when the owners manual tells you and use a good filter.
No they didn't. Just bought some a couple of weeks ago for $25 plus tax.
i didn't mean all of them, just in my area. i've checked all the walmarts around in a 50 mile radius of here and they have all stopped carrying it. seattle is a little far to travel for me for some oil ....
you want more zinc? try mobil 1 15-50 automotive oil. used to be able to get it at local walmart for $27 for a 5qt jug. but they stopped selling it.
+ 1 stopped selling here to I found it about 60 miles from me
