Another seat question
I have a 2003 FLHTCUI Electra glide ultra classic. I'm height challenged and i would feel better if i sat a little lower in the seat. Boots help but i'm hoping to find a lower seat, and besides my harley seat is seeing some wear. I"m looking at a Mustang One piece Ultra touring seat. #75449 . If anyone has any insights, i would appreciate it. I think it will still be a case of ordering and then returning if it doesn't look like it will help.
if you like it order it and they give like 10 days or something like that to try it out .... yes I know your in iowa just take put the seat on and sit on it in the garage for awhile you will know right away if you like it or not. or depending how close you are to a dealer you can try a Harley demo seat
I just put the same seat on the same bike in the fall. I only got a couple really short rides in before the snow started flying so I can't really give a long term impression but here's what I can give so far.
As with the Mustang on my last bike, it is firmer and more supportive, definitely more comfortable. It did, however, change the way I sit on the bike. I seem to have to roll forward slightly to get my feet down. I think that it's something that I will be able to adjust to and it may change as the seat breaks in. My last seat changed slightly over the first 500 km and then settled in and stayed in that position for as long as I had it. For me,personally I think it will be worth it for the obvious increase in comfort over the squishy stock seat. I just hope that once I get it on the highway I don't discover that I have to change my 10" Windsplitter windshield.
I'm about 5'10, 150lbs with about a 31" inseam if that helps at all.
Here's what Mustang said in response to an email I sent regarding the seating position of this seat.
Hi, thanks for the email.

Our Touring seats generally bring you up a little due to the thickness of the foam. The nose is a bit thinner than stock, but depending on your shape and riding posture your “butt feeling” might be different.
*
If the seat is uncomfortably high, it may settle somewhat in time. I suggest taking it for a ride and seeing how it goes.
*
Regarding the rear seat and the handrails, I don’t recall anyone complaining about discomfort from the handrails. Of course, what your wife experiences is correct, so yes, try it out on a ride together and decide between yourselves how the seat works for the two of you.
*
Our seat 75353 is a bit lower and narrower than the 75449, and in conjunction with a 13.5” passenger seat 75460 you might find it easier to touch the pavement and sit where you are accustomed if the Ultra Touring doesn’t work out for you both.

Give C&C Seats a call. They are extremely helpful over the phone. Needed a seat for my wife's bike that moved her forward and down. They got some info from me and built a seat for her, based on her specs. Fit her great and extremely comfortable (added memory foam and gel inserts). Four years later, it still looks new. When I needed a seat for my Street Glide, I went with C&C again. The call is free unless they convince you to buy from them.

I stand behind Mean City Cycles. They customize your seat. You can make an appt and ride in or ship it in. I wanted the opposite. 1" up and 1" back. They do great work, have wonderful customer service. I've got over three thousand miles on the custom and I love it. Cost me 225 dollars including shipping

Everyone is different, what works for some, will not work for others. Had a Mean City conversion and was not completely happy.
Had a Russell Day-long made and never looked back. Cost is a factor, however comfort is an investment.
